Nanga Parbat Rupal face base camp, also known as Herrligkoffer basecamp, is green pasture located at 3550 meters right in the feet of the mighty Nanga Parbat. From the basecamp you can view the majestic 3600m tall Rupal rock face of Nanga Parbat for as long as you want. This is why this trek is considered the most rewarding trek as you can live right under the shade of Nanga Parbat after trekking only for a few hours. Looking towards Nanga Parbat from the base camp, there are steep hills on both your sides. Your back is turned towards the way you came from. These hills make the base camp a safe location to camp as they save the base camp from high speed winds. In the year 2010, the village of Attabad in the Hunza Valley (about 760 km away from Islamabad) was hit by a huge landslide, which probably was created by an earthquake. Reportedly, boulders from the mountains around came crashing down and destroyed the village. Along with Attabad, four other villages, namely Ainabad, Shishkat, Gulmit and Gulkin were also completely destroyed. The flow of Hunza river was obstructed for about five months which gives birth to this new lake. Months later, it became a full-fledged lake flowing along the narrow valley. Though it was created by a disaster, one can’t ignore the spectacular beauty it’s blessed with. Depending on the weather condition, we might try boating around the lake.

The local legend about the Buddha tells of a man-devouring ogress, called Yatshini who lived at Kargha.Carved over a hard cliff, the ‘Yatchini’ of the Kargah Buddha has a lot to say about man-devouring evil. At first glance, the carving seems like a naked female figure. However, upon a closer look, the Yatchini has broad and squarish face with distended ears, a flat nose and a broad mouth. With his right hand raised, he stares back at you in a fearless pose.

A series of holes create a boundary around the Yatchini. These pinholes are believed to be holding ogress in place. The 13 holes are fixed on all four sides of the ogress. Later the saint declared that she would not bother them as long as the saint was alive and if they buried the saint at the foothills of the rock, she would never be freed. The saint was said to have been buried right below the Buddha statue

This awe-inspiring 20 feet tall statue was engraved right into the flat mountain wall in the 7th century. Ruins of stupas and a monastry are located 400m further from this statue. And the entire archaeological site was discovered in 1939 along with some manuscripts.
